My son Kai

is just a great human

Yesterday, my son Kai stood in front of his entire eighth grade class and delivered this speech.

Out of more than 60 students, his was selected.

And he absolutely nailed it.

He spoke with conviction. Confidence. Poise. Heart.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

As his mom, I could barely believe what I was watching. This is the same little boy I once worried might not survive the devastating loss of his older brother. The same child whose future I feared had been forever altered by grief.

And yet here he was, standing tall, using his voice to move an entire auditorium.

I am so deeply in awe of the human he has become.

With his permission, I want to share his words with you. I’ve also included a video of him reading the speech, because the way he delivered it was every bit as powerful as what he wrote.
